The Gospel According to Jeremiah

Jeremiah is something. He loves to tell everyone he meets that he is going to be a priest when he grows up. He also loves to talk about God and Jesus whenever he can. At the age of four, he is already spreading the joy of the gospel to all who will listen, and he does seem to have quite a following among my mom friends and acquaintances. Granted, he is probably preaching to the choir, but at least it is good practice. Here is an example. Tonight at swim team, he sat down with some moms instead of playing with some of the younger kids who were watching their older siblings (there were 2 four year old boys there) and he was talking about how he was going to be a priest. Many of the parents just automatically address him as "Father Jeremiah" already, so this was nothing new. So this is how he started the conversation tonight and it went something like this:

"God is Jesus. Jesus is God. Jesus is God's son. God sent him to take away the sins of the world so that we can live in heaven forever with God. Jesus died on the cross for our sins because sometimes we do something bad. Then he rose from the dead to show people he was God's son. Then, he flew up to heaven without a cape or wings, more powerful than a super-hero, where he is seated at the right hand of God."

A mom said, "It's hard to believe someone could be more powerful than Batman! It must be pretty cool to have those special powers."

Jeremiah replied, "Yeah, he is more powerful than Batman and Superman. And when I become a priest,  Jesus will give me special powers too. I will turn bread and wine into the body and blood of Jesus and I will get to eat him everyday and he will live inside me. And then I can give Jesus to all the people at church and Jesus will live inside of them too."

Admittedly, he lost some people on doctrine at this point. But there you have it, the Gospel according to Jeremiah.
