Weekend Visitors

We had another fun weekend at our house. Friday night, two of David's sisters, Susan and Lisa, came down to visit. Lisa had a dog show nearby over the weekend. My friend down the street also came over and we ate the home-made gumbo I made and drank some wine. Susan and Lisa retired earlier than we did, but David, Karsan and I were up for a while drinking Spanish Coffee and eating dessert.

It started to snow on Friday night and Saturday we woke up to cancelled basketball games. But, the kids did make it to their rescheduled swim team workout later in the morning. In the afternoon, Evee came up from Baltimore and Susan and Lisa were back from the dog show, so we had a relaxing time visiting with each other. For dinner, I made a baked butternut squash (baked with cinnamon, cloves and brown sugar) and granny smith apple soup and some pasta primavera with garlic and white wine sauce (Susan is a vegan and I am not up on fancy vegan recipes, so this was about all I could do). Then we had dessert and more Spanish Coffee. My little guys were up way too late, but hey, it's not everyday we get special visitors.

I was having a good time making use of my almost finished new kitchen. It has already been such a pleasure to have all this space and new appliances, not to mention pretty counters, cabinets and backsplash to work with. This is exactly the kitchen that will be a pleasure to entertain in and we look forward to many guests in 2012 and beyond.
